QLD Member COVID update: advice from Qld Gov regarding fishing

BIA has received the following advice with regards to fishing from the Queensland Government, confirmed by Queensland Health.
If you are in a locked down area, you must stay home and only leave your home for an essential reason.
Boating & Sport – a marriage made in heaven
With the wonderful waterways on offer, you can understand why more than 20 percent of all Aussies engage in some form of boating annually. Almost one in five households have a boat or watercraft. Adding to the enticement is the fact that 85 percent of Australian live within 50km of the coast.
Cruising or simply messing around in boats is the obvious conclusion, however, sport plays a big part in the engagement with boating. Whilst sport conjures thoughts of competition: leisure, entertainment or simply for good health dominate boating activity.
Boating has been a long-time conduit that brings families together.
Australians have an inherent passion for the outdoors and it is understandable given the magnificent country we have. As the largest island in the world, our access to the ocean, bays and rivers is significant.
Boating has provided access to these waterways for many Australians with more than 85 per cent of the population living within 50km of the coast. It is estimated that more than 20 per cent of all Australians engage in some form of boating annually and that almost 1 in 5 households have a boat or watercraft.
Welcome to the mid-winter 2020 edition of the PHYB newsletter. Well as the saying goes “may you live in interesting times” and this year has certainly been one that is unlike any other in recent memory. While the year started off fairly normal by March it had all changed, everyone stopped boating and we were all wondering if we were ever going to be able to use our boats again. Then we became an “essential activity” and gradually we saw people start to use their boats and the smiles started to return. By June things were becoming clearer and with the prospect of no overseas travel and limited travel within Australia recreational boating was back alive and kicking.
